Epoxy Coatings
Epoxy coatings are the most common form of garage floor coatings. Epoxy floor coating is a compound of epoxy resin and a catalyst or polyamine hardener. Epoxy is applied with rollers and brushes and is extremely durable. Epoxy will not only protect your floor from damage caused by oil, gasoline, or chemicals but it will give your flooring the ability to withstand an enormous amount of weight. Epoxy comes in all sorts of different colors meaning that you can have flooring that is customized to your individual needs. Epoxy is a great choice for any garage floor, and is also great for other spots around the house.
Polyurethane Coatings
Polyurethane coatings are even more durable than epoxy coatings. A polyurethane coating not only protects your floor from cracking under pressure, but it also gives your garage floor resistance to abrasive substances and UV rays. These properties make polyurethane coatings a great choice for garage floors. Polyurethane coatings are flexible and robust making your garage floor quite impact resistant, especially in comparison to other floor coatings. Polyurethane can also be applied on top of an epoxy coating to give the floor UV protection, which protects the floor from discoloration.
Chip And Flake Coatings
Chip and flake coatings are another option if you are interested in getting a garage floor coating. Chip and flake coatings are a great choice because they give you the best of both worlds when it comes to durability and aesthetics. A chip and flake coating mixes either epoxy or polyurethane coating with vinyl chips to give your floor a completely unique look. Because the mix will come out different every time, you are able to make the decision for what colors are used in the coatings, giving you the ability to customize your floor coating.
Floor Paint
If you are looking for a simple fix to hide grease or rust stains then paint might be the perfect choice for you. Paint offers your garage floor protection from corrosive materials including chemicals, cleaners and oils. However, floor paint does not provide your floors with the same kind of protection or durability that other types of coatings do. If you decide to use floor paint, we suggest getting a non-slip finish to provide your floors with better traction.
